CYLC and True Lacrosse have partnered to bring even greater opportunities for lacrosse to North Wake County
CYLC has partnered with True Lacrosse to expand the game of lacrosse in North Wake and continue to elevate the skills of our players even further. CYLC will continue to exist under the True Lacrosse umbrella of clubs and will continue to focus exclusively on recreational lacrosse. We have also provided additional information about True Lacrosse and our goals we want to achieve with this partnership.
Who is True Lacrosse: True Lacrosse in a national lacrosse organization focused on the education and development of youth players in the sport of lacrosse. True is brand new to North Carolina, having established its first boys travel program this spring. RJ Ancona is the director for North Carolina and will be working closely with CYLC to grow our rec program.
Why Partner with True: By partnering with True, CYLC gets the benefits of a national level lacrosse club including established infrastructure to support registration, communication, and advertising. Our Players get access to more coaching, clinics, additional team opportunities, and recruiting support. Our coaches get access to development and training opportunities and practice materials.
What won’t change at CYLC: First and foremost, Our core mission will remain focused on providing an opportunity for local lacrosse players and their families to participate and enjoy the game of lacrosse…incorporate community pride, builds a high level of competition, and assists all levels of learning from beginner to highly advanced…develop an environment that fosters the growth of positive character traits beyond the game of lacrosse…help young lacrosse players reach their maximum potential by providing quality coaching and learning experiences in a safe, equitable and friendly environment.
Additionally, the CYLC Board will remain and be a major focal point for providing direction on how we grow and manage lacrosse in North Wake. The board, along with True Lacrosse, agree that this is critical to keep the focus on community and the recreational aspect of the game.
What will Change at CYLC: Very little will change with how the club is run, but there will be a few differences. Most of the changes are happening behind the scenes and involved the administration of the club
- Registration will be done through True Lacrosse
- Scheduling and coordination of schedules, games, etc
- Colors and Logo – more on that later
- More frequent communication
- More training opportunities including clinics and camps
- Expanded recreational competition and local tournament opportunities
Why Does True Want to Work with CYLC: While the focus of True here in NC so far has been around their travel programs, but their core mission has always been about developing new players, no matter the age and providing an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the sport at whatever level of competition they want. True also understands that cost can be a barrier to new players and families – CYLC Rec Lacrosse is and will remain the best cost option in the area to grow the sport.
Does a player have to play True NC Travel if they Play for True Revolution: Absolutely not – True Revolution is purely a recreation lacrosse program whose aim is to grow the game and the league. To do this, we want to gather all our local players regardless of if they play travel lacrosse or what team they are on if they do play, into a single youth lacrosse program dedicated to enabling our youth to play at any level of competition they want.
What does this mean for our local coaches: CYLC and True will continue to rely on the same local coaches that have done such an outstanding job throughout the history of the club. True Lacrosse’s aim is to provide tools and development opportunities to help make our coaches’ lives easier. If you volunteer to coach a team, then that team is yours – with all the hard work and rewards that come with coaching.
Branding: Carolina Youth Lacrosse Club will continue to exist as our parent non-profit organization…and will still find that blue frog popping up now and then…but with a new partnership, a new era in North Wake lacrosse comes a new brand. When we first started our discussion with True, we knew we wanted to find a way to show that both CYLC and the spirit of CYLC was here to stay. We agreed that combining the iconic symbols of both CYLC and True, we could have a brand that represented the mission of both clubs and that the players would be proud to wear.

What’s Next: There will be no change this fall outside of opportunities to meet some of the True staff. Starting with Spring Registration, communication will start to come from True – through the new True Revolution Team. Registration will be done through SportsEngine (but team rosters, schedules, etc will continue in TeamSnap). We will also start to send out information about our program including introductions and upcoming opportunities.
Questions: If anyone has any questions regarding the upcoming partnership, please send them to [email protected] or [email protected].
